Call the cops! Happy Mondays Star Bez to DJ at Hereford’s Jailhouse

4 05 2011

Fans of the ‘Madchester’ Music Scene have a chance to relive the hedonism of The Haçienda when Bez, best known as the Freaky Dancer with Happy Mondays and Black Grape, arrives in Hereford on May 14th to play a DJ set at The Jailhouse.

Despite it being his debut appearance at the Gaol Street club, he has visited Hereford before, when a reformed Happy Mondays played Hereford Leisure Centre in April 1999.
Bez has more recently made his mark on the alternative dance scene with his festival appearances; ‘Bez’s Acid House’ appearances are widely revered as a must-see by festival goers across the country.

Bez joined Happy Mondays shortly after they originally formed and was the band’s mascot and dancer during their chaotic presence in the charts, which was notable with top ten hits ‘Step On’ and ‘Kinky Afro’. Bez stuck with Shaun Ryder when the Mondays split, forming Black Grape, and went onto enjoy a number one album with ‘It’s Great When You’re Straight…Yeah’, which in turn produced three top-twenty singles. On leaving the band in 1997 he enjoyed success with a presenting slot on BBC 2’s The Sunday Show.

Following the second revival of the Happy Mondays, Bez became popular with new audiences as well as his loyal fans following the release of the biographical movie ’24 Hour Party People’ in 2002 and his Celebrity Big Brother triumph in 2005.

Whether you are an original fan of Bez and the music scene that made him, or discovering ‘Madchester’ for the first time, this night promises to be a memorable one. Support comes from the fantastic Farcical 3, Monty and The Emperor and DJ Glass. It all kicks off at 10pm, with entry costing £5 before 11 and £6 after.

DJ Heroes The Scratch Perverts return to Hereford

4 04 2011

Friday 8th April 2011:

Following the success of Nero performing at The Jailhouse in March, April 8th sees the exciting return of Prime Cuts, Tony Vegas and Plus One – better known as The Scratch Perverts.

Without doubt one of the world’s most famous DJ collectives, The Scratch Perverts have long received widespread acclaim. They won the first collective DMC Team DJ Championships in 1999. Additionally Prime Cuts claimed 2 consecutive ITF World Scratching titles, first beating A-Trak (who recently had a top-ten hit as one half of Duck Sauce) in Hawaii in 1999 and then defending the title in Los Angeles the following year. Plus One won the Vestax battle in 2000 and returned the DMC World crown to the UK following its ten year absence.

More recently, the trio have crossed into the mainstream; their notorious skills on the decks have seen them included in Activision’s smash hit videogames, DJ Hero and DJ Hero 2 – their five-song set in the former is regarded as by far the most difficult, by players and gaming media alike. Their single, Stand By, was also featured in the Lucozade Sport TV advertising campaign.

Scratch Perverts are big fans of playing in Hereford and are said to be looking forward to returning to The Jailhouse on Gaol Street, where they last played in February 2010. Their residency at Fabric in London regularly attracts nearly 2,000 people, so the opportunity to see them perform in an intimate venue such as The Jailhouse is one not to be missed.

The club will be open from 10 pm – 6 am. Tickets can be purchased on the door and cost £5 before 10:30 and £8 after.

Room 2 will play host to the PHATPromo and Fit Online DJ Competition. More details can be found by clicking here.
